A fine 11.5 mile walk in a very quiet and attractive part part of the Yorkshire Wolds. The walk is through rolling countryside with relatively gentle ascents and descents, and generally good conditions underfoot.
The route taken is through the Crook Plantation and towards Low Mowthorpe, and the deserted medieval village of Mowthorpe. Then up to High Mowthorpe Plantations, down to Thirkleby Manor and up to Thirkleby Wold, Kirby Plantation and a return to our start point.
The meeting point for this walk is on the road from Sledmere to Kirby Grindalythe, approximately 1.5 miles from Sledmere. On a high point on that road at a tree plantation there is ample parking on the grass verges.
