Overview

A WALK DESCRIPTION: 10 miles, about 1500 ft total ascent. Leader: Peter Searle. From Barnt Green station we cross Fiery Hill Road then walk up the path alongside Cherry Hill Drive, crossing Cherry Hill Road to enter the Lickey Woods through Pinfields Wood, then along the ridge of Cofton Hill to reach the visitor centre (toilets). We descend the path opposite, to cross the bottom of Rose Hill, and follow a path alongside Rednal Hill before crossing the golf course and climbing steeply to Beacon Hill. From here we will follow the North Worcestershire Path to Waseley Hill. We will take a path along the side of Windmill Hill, to pass the source of the river Rea, before arriving at the Waseley Hills Visitor Centre for a picnic lunch (hot drinks or snacks may be available from the cafe). From here our route will take us over Windmill Hill and Waseley Hill, before descending to Chadwich Grange Farm, and a path through Chadwich Manor Estate to Redhill Lane. We follow the lane for about 500 yards, crossing beneath the A38 near Lydiate Ash, then ascend a footpath through woodland to Beacon Farm and Beacon Lane. Another footpath cuts across to Monument Lane, which we follow to the Monument field, crossing the Old Birmingham Road and Lickey Cemetery to re-enter the woods at Lickey Warren. We will follow a different route back through Pinfield Wood, finally retracing our steps to Barnt Green station. Picnic lunch, optional pub in Barnt Green at the end.
