A mix of farmland and woods, mostly tranquil once the A34 is left behind. This is typical Hampshire downland with a few hills but nothing too strenuous and a few stretches of road walking, mostly along quiet lanes. The mud was not too bad on the prewalk. 3 good stiles in the morning, none in the afternoon.
We start at 10.00 from roadside parking on Newbury Road a couple of miles north of Whitchurch.
The walk is 5 miles in the morning, with the option of a pub lunch at The George in St Mary Bourne or picnic in the nearby recreation ground. When booking please advise on whether you will picnic or eat in the pub. The pub is due to send me an up-to-date menu on Wednesday 29th, which I will circulate, and ask for a preorder the same evening please. I realise that this may be a bit tight! The afternoon is 4 miles.
