***Please note both the walk and the Christmas lunch are now fully booked ***
Another opportunity to walk along the Crouch estuary to Burnham-on-Crouch, also known as "the Cowes of the East Coast" due to its popularity with boating enthusiasts. The tidal river Crouch is a haven for bird life and offers great views across the mudflats and estuary. A shorter 6-mile walk to allow time to get to the yacht club for lunch, we start at Althorne and walk eastwards on parts of the sea wall toward the North Sea, passing marinas, creeks, salt-marshes, reed ponds and lots of sailing boats. Due to the time of year it may be misty and we are guaranteed a good measure of mud and puddles! The walk is relatively flat but can be slippery. Dress for the weather and not the lunch! Bring shoe covers or spare shoes for indoors at the yacht club. We aim to arrive for lunch 12.30 -1.30.
Please use toilets on the train as there are none at the station at Althorne, or on the walk.
Travel:
Take the 09.23 train from Liverpool St (Stratford, 09.30); change at Wickford for the 10.05 to Althorne (4 stops). Arrive Althorne at 10.25. Buy a return to Burnham-On-Crouch.
Return trains from Burnham-on Crouch are: 15.09; 16.09; 17.09 (change at Wickford) and you should allow a 20 minute walk from the yacht club to the station.
Sorry, no doggies allowed as we will finish in a restaurant with other members of the public. The path is very narrow and tends to be extremely muddy++++
A confirmed booking is necessary to join the walk and lunch. Sorry we are fully booked!
The finishing time is an estimate only and our ability to get to the yacht club will depend on the weather, the terrain and speed of group.
