WALK DESCRIPTION: This walk is about 7 miles with a total ascent of 150 metres (500 feet) – 4.75 miles and 125 metres (410 feet) before lunch and 2.25 miles and 25 metres (82 feet) after lunch. Nothing steep and excellent tracks throughout with a mix of canal, reservoir, field, woodland and quiet roads offering some very pleasant views. The walk starts at the pub with a quiet little backwater of a lane lined with attractive cottages to a tree-lined track and our first gentle ascent leading us to a short canal section and Upper Bittell Reservoir. Here we take a break at this large body of water with its sailing craft and hopefully some birdlife. We head towards Barnt Green, walk through the village to our next easy ascent, a good grass path to the top of Coopers Hill – pause to enjoy the views - then a short lane walk soon brings us back on to field tracks and a slow and most enjoyable descent, enjoying more good views, down to Withybed Green and lunch. There are a few stiles but none of them should present a problem. After lunch following a short canal section we head towards Alvechurch church with its interesting interior - worth a quick look if open - and pleasant grounds and then pick up field tracks to the canal and return to our start passing by the many boats moored up at Alvechurch Marina.
BOOKING ESSENTIAL, please use the link above for our Eventbrite page.
Our Wednesday walks include a lunchtime pub stop. Requirements for meals from the pub menu are usually requested and ordered before the start of the walk by the leader. Walkers who prefer to take a picnic lunch are welcome to do so and the leader will have a place designated for this somewhere near the pub, in the village, or in the area where we are stopping for lunch.
