Overview

A circular picnic walk from Winchester cathedral, out across the water meadows and up onto the South Downs Way for beautiful views back across the City, and as far as the Isle of Wight. 

Returning in a loop past Cheesefoot Head and down to Avington, before returning to Winchester.

Expect some wet and muddy tracks and long but gentle hill climbs, so good footwear is a must, and bring walking poles if you use them.  Some stretches are quite exposed to the elements, so keep an eye on the forecast !

Please note there are no "facilities" on the walk, although the coffee van at Cheesefoot Head might be open.  Bring a picnic, water and a hot flask.
