Overview

Starting from Bickerton Hill we walk along the Sandstone Trail with some great views. We pass places with interesting names “Mad Allen’s Hole”, “Musket’s Hole” and on to the Trig point at Raw Head. We then follow undulating countryside through pretty villages of Harthill and Brown Knowl until we eventually climb up to the Iron age fort of “Maiden Castle” and back to the start.

There are some fairly steep sections on the walk.

Bring refreshments for coffee and lunch stops.

Bickerton Hill NT car park off Goldford Lane. The Satnav may ask you to turn up someone’s driveway but keep going a little further until you see a pond on the right hand side. The access to the car park is on the right just after the pond. The car park is approached via an unmade track full of enormous potholes. Take great care.
