We are the West Kent Walking Group. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
A picturesque, circular walk that takes in the historic tudor village of Chilham plus Godmersham Park which has associations with Jane Austen. Our undulating woodland, pasture and lane route offers beautiful views along much of the way and is suitable for well-behaved dogs wearing leads around livestock and the few largely quiet road sections.
Please gather at 09:45 for a prompt start at 10am and bring a picnic lunch. There are public toilets in the large free carpark at the start / end of the walk and we hope to make a drinks stop mid-way but this element is yet to be recc'ed. Stout walking boots are advisable for muddy conditions and rutted tracks. Chilham Square boasts The White Horse Inn and delightful Church Mouse Tea Rooms (open 09:30 to 16:00) for refreshments but The Woolpack Hotel on the village edge seems a little less suited to walkers.
The large free carpark with public toilets is just off A20 and at the foot of the lane leading up to the village square. Chilham Railway Station is about half a mile from this carpark and apparently served by trains from London St. Pancras or Victoria but please check this online to your own satisfaction.
