Overview

A 5 mile moderate walk into Macc Forest up to the ruined farm. Great views guaranteed (when you can see them!)

Meet at Trentabank car park entrance for 10.00am - £4.00 for 4 hours. Parking may also be available in parking bays on the roads nearby, although these do fill up quickly.

From the car park, we head past Ridgegate reservoir towards Bottoms reservoir. After crossing the dam, we go along Teggsnose reservoir and up to Clough House and Hardingland where we enter the forest.  Refreshment stop at the ruined farm where there is a memorial to Walter Whiston Bullock who was in the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917. We then make our way down towards the Leather’s Smithy and round the other side of Ridgegate reservoir back to the car park.

The route - Trentabank CP - Ridgegate reservoir - Bottoms reservoir - Clough House - Hardingland - Macclesfield Forest - Ridgegate reservoir - Trentabank CP.

The route is a good mix of paths, tracks and lanes. There are a couple of steepish climbs and some steps. No stiles. Muddy in places. There is a possibility to extend the walk to go via Forest Chapel, depending on conditions.

Bring refreshments. Poles recommended.

5 miles, 900 ft ascent (approx), moderate, some steeper sections (OS app) approx 2.5hrs
