Overview

Initial ascent up Moel Tan y Coed ('Velvet Hill'). View of Valle Crucis Abbey ruins from the top, then down to the Eglwyseg River valley. We take a forested track along the valley, then across to the Britannia Hotel. An energetic ascent opens out on to moorland terrain with views across the Horseshoe Pass. We pass some old slate quarry workings and follow the ridge over the top, before descending at the south end of the hill. Another path then leads us  down to LLantysilio, where we pass the chapel, and then down to the horseshoe falls, where the Llangollen Canal begins. A small metal bridge takes us back to the car park. Magnificent views of the Llangollen Vale.
