Overview

A circular walk led by Will G (Mobile No: 07562 085997). Through Burghfield Common and Englefield Estate woodland, with the reservoir known as ‘The Oval Pond’. Lunch at ‘The Red Lion’ pub at Mortimer West End, but please bring sandwiches. We then walk along the walls of the deserted Roman town called Calleva Attrebatum and visit the amphitheatre. Back to the station following the stream and railway line. Map: E159, L175.

Mortimer Station (GWR train from Paddington Platform 2 (Reading service) at 09:00 which arrives Reading (Platform 13) at 09:26 (or take the Elizabeth line from Tottenham Court Road at 08:08, change at Paddington at 08:13 (Platforms A & B) to the 08:18 from Platforms 11 & 12 which arrives at Reading at 09:10). Change to Platform 15 for the 09:37 Basingstoke service).
