From Orston, we will walk beside the River Smite and over Blackberry Hill to Whatton-in-the-Vale and Aslockton. We can walk round the edge of the hill if the path over the top looks too muddy on the day, but on a clear day there are good views from the hill. We will make some detours around the villages and have stops for coffee and picnic lunch, with places to sit. We will return to Orston past Cranmer's Mound, site of a motte and bailey castle (named after Thomas Cranmer, who was born in Aslockton). We will join the path on the other side of the river and pass through Orston Millennium Green near the end of the walk. Dogs are permitted if kept on a lead. The Durham Ox pub should be open at the end of the walk.
Please register for this walk on Newark Ramblers website where you will also find details of our car share scheme.
