Overview

This walk marks the anniversary of the official opening of the Pennine Way 60 years ago today and gives excellent views of the South Tyne Valley through which the PW passes.

From the car park we drop down to the river South Tyne and then work our way to Kellah and Batey Shield where we join the Pennine Way. We follow this to Burnstones before heading back via Eals, Coanwood and the disused Prisoner of War Camp Site below Featherstone Castle.
