Overview

A WALK DESCRIPTION: We start near the town centre of Henley-in-Arden with a walk along The Mount ridge which includes ancient earthwork remains of Beaudesert Castle and offers extensive views all round.  We continue north-east and south to the attractively located Preston Bagot church.  The church stands on a small hill and we have our morning tea break here – plenty of benches - while enjoying the views.  After our break we take a short canal walk as far as the very picturesque Aqueduct lock and a quiet lane to Yarningale Common and the Mill Mound – more views from here.  Our route then follows good tracks passing farms and hamlets (should be relatively mud-free!) to Lowsonford and our lunch stop at the Fleur De Lys canalside pub.We then follow a section of the Heart of England Way which gradually descends attractive woodland and more rural tracks in this quiet area to finish our walk just north of Henley-in-Aden. Walk distance: 11.5 miles. Total ascent: modest.

BOOKING ESSENTIAL, please use the link above for our booking page. Coach fare £5, payable cash/cheque or in advance by bank transfer.

The Birmingham Ramblers recently bid for, and won, a grant from the Inclusive Communities Fund which is part of the legacy of the Commonwealth Games. This grant is specifically to assist with coach transport to encourage new people to join the Sunday walks and start walking in country areas.

We will be using this fund to subsidise coach-based walks, such as this one, in areas which offer opportunities to new inexperienced walkers as well as challenges to regular walkers under the banner Keep Fit for a Fiver. As this suggests, we are reducing the coach fare for this and some other selected walks to £5 for all, be they regular walkers or new faces.
