This walk will be co-led with Jo Snowden and Sian Allen.
There are stunning views on this walk at 3 well known viewing points: Roseberry Topping, Hanging Stone and High Cliff Nab. There’s a variety of terrains: woodland, fields and rocky hillsides.
Our first peak, about 3.5 miles in, is the popular Roseberry Topping. This is also the longest and steepest climb on the walk, so it’s a good place to rest, eat, drink and take in the views (weather permitting!).
We then descend and continue our walk to Hanging Stone, where we’ll pause for the views before heading for High Cliff Nab, which is around 7 miles into the walk.
The final few miles descend into woodland and farmland, and we’ll pass Hutton Hall on our way back to the car park.
This is a moderate walk due to the ascent – the paths are mostly good, but the descent from Roseberry Topping is rocky and steep in places. Please pack enough layers and waterproofs for autumnal weather – even in summer it was very windy and cold on the tops. You’ll need to bring a packed lunch.
The start point is a visitors car park with café and toilets. The toilets close at 4, the café closes at 3pm for food and 3.30pm for drinks to take away. If we’re back too late to use the facilities there, the Voyager pub with parking is just 1 mile away by car. We will decide on the day whether to stop for a drink/food at the pub, people may be keen to get home after a weekend away.
Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome on this walk.
