On 24th & 26th September 1940 the Supermarine Spitfire factory at Woolston was bombed and production had to be dispersed to over 30 secret locations across Southampton and more beyond.
The "Spitfire Makers " charity are trying to recognise these sites with Blue Commemorative Plaques.
This walk takes you to 8 of these locations in Shirley to discover their part in the production of the Spitfire. The walk then returns back to the Lordsdale Greenway, where we walk along the banks of the Holly Brook and the Tanners Brook up to Lordswood and then around the City Golf Course.
Please bring refreshments for one coffee stop and picnic lunch at convenient locations.
THERE IS NO MAXIMUM LIMIT FOR THE NUMBER OF WALKERS ON THIS WALK BUT YOU MUST BOOK A PLACE.
If you would like to join this walk, please email the leader (by clicking on the email box above). Bookings must be made by 8pm the day before the walk. Please only attend the walk if you have received confirmation of your booking from the walk leader.
