Overview

Forget watching Wimbledon and the tennis on TV, come and join us for a walk around an exceedingly interesting place instead. For Wimbledon, you will have to keep an eye on those male tennis players anyway, because they are into black magic, voodoo and the like. Just look at that Goran. Even he’s a witch.

This is a Medium Walk and we will meet at Hawkshill Road car park, the free one behind the pay one.
We will head for Stoney Middleton, taking in the sites that made the village famous, such as the Plague Cottages and the Boundary Stone, to count but two, and then see one of only two octagonal churches in the country, St Martins, all before the coffee break at Riley Graves. St Martin is known for sharing his cloak with a freezing beggar and there is a wonderful stained-glass window, depicting this, inside the church, which was built in 1415. After coffee, onward to Mompesson’s Well and across Eyam Moor before returning.

After doing the recce, it’s about 8.5 miles, and it’s moderate, we get all the climbing bits done either side of coffee.

But wait, fans of hit TV series BREAKING BAD and BETTER CALL SAUL may wish to know that, in 2007, the UK’s largest crystal meth factory was found somewhere along the route of this walk. Where? Join us and find out.

If your groups walk is fully booked come along, don’t forget to bring a flask and packed lunch, we stop once for a drink and once more for lunch, and set off at 10:00 a.m. with whoever has turned up - so don’t be late. Any queries better call Paul on 07568712197. Let’s go guys.
