The walk starts outside Todmorden railway station. The direct train from Leeds arrives at 10.35. We walk through the town centre and join the Rochdale canal, walk towards Hebden bridge. We leave the canal at Woodhouse Road near Mitsubishi Chemicals. The road / path leads up the hill to Mankinholes. We then follow the Pennine Bridleway to the Stoodley Pike Monument. I aim for lunch at the monument. We then follow the Pennine way along the ridge ( I was unable to walk this section on my recce due to high winds) . The path then leaves the ridge past Gaddings Dam. We then follow the path back into Todmorden. Following the walk I hope to call in at the White Hart , Wetherspoon's located opposite the railway station.
Stoodley Pike Monument - 37meters high. The first monument erected in 1814 to commemorate the end of the battle of Waterloo. The monument was rebuilt in 1856. A spiral staircase of 39 steps leads to a balcony part way up the tower.
I have checked for train tickets on Trainline. Com and found a return ticket from New Pudsey is £8.50 off peak
