The walk starts in the village of Wantage following an open grassy ridge in the North Wessex Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The route follows Britain's oldest road, a trade route at least 5,000 years old (pre Roman). This is a remote walk away from towns and villages with wide open views of rolling chalk downland. There are archeological features on route including Grim's Ditch, Scutchamer Knob Iron Age round barrow and Segsbury or Letcombe Castle ancient hill fort. The walk will be reasonably paced 3mph.
This walk is part of the Ridgeway series.
