The Official Take A Hike Weekend Away 2024

Your committee has decided to do things a little differently this year. In a change from the traditional Summer Bash, we will be spending a weekend in the picturesque coastal town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea! Details are as follows:

Dates

Friday 13th September to Sunday 15th September

Transport

Just under a two hour drive from Leeds, or a two hour direct train from Leeds via Redcar and Marske. 

For Saturday night  - last train from Saltburn to Marske and Redcar is 22:59pm. Trains throughout the day are every half hour, and every hour in the evening.

Accommodation

Affordable Airbnb and booking.com rooms and hotels are available in Saltburn, Marske and Redcar. These are small towns and there are limited options, so book quickly to avoid disappointment. 

Avoid the Saltburn House Hotel, as September rooms are liable to cancellation. You could also try arranging through the Facebook group for accommodation shares.

Walks

These are the provisional walk plans: 

Saturday - Linear Saltburn to Staithes with bus back (8.8miles)

Sunday - Saltburn via Redcar beach and Teesmouth nature reserve (14 miles). May be shortened to circular starting at Redcar.

Possible visit to Saltburn valley gardens for a short walk.

Evening Plans

Friday - meet at 7pm at the Spa Hotel restaurant, or 8:10pm at Coco & Rum restaurant, both in Saltburn town.

You could also make your own catering arrangements if you wish. 

Saturday - A function room at The Victoria pub in Saltburn has been booked from 7pm, entertainment in the form of a quiz and music has been arranged. Pizzas and pasta will be ordered from Alessi’s Italian restaurant. Alessi's menu  https://www.alessiss-saltburn.com/our-menu.php with a cash payment of £10 on the night needed. Please let us know by email if you have dietary requirements.
