This is a challenging hill walk, suitable only for those with a high level of fitness and experience in hillwalking. Expect a long and at times steep ascent, and a demanding climb to the summit. This will be a long day, including more than 2 hours of train travel each way (4.5 hours total), so we need to maintain a fast pace on the hills with limited breaks to catch the return train. Please only sign up if you are confident in your ability to complete the route at a brisk pace.
The Ben Vrackie Loop is a fantastic circular route starting from Pitlochry Train Station. The path climbs gradually through woodland before opening up to stunning moorland scenery. The ascent to the summit (841m) is steep and strenuous but rewards us with spectacular panoramic views on a clear day. We will descend via a different route, passing Loch a’ Choire before rejoining the main trail back to Pitlochry.
