The walk starts at Hamilton Central train station. Walking through the town for about a mile we then enter this beautiful 500 acre park. While walking in the park we pass monuments, castle ruins, an 18th century hunting lodge where on a clear day you can view across the central belt to the Campsie hills. We also cross under great bridges and walk past 1000 year old oak trees. We will be walking along the banks of the river Avon through the Avon Gorge. The walk ends at Chatelherault train station where there are trains every half hour at 08 and 38 back to Glasgow Central.
The walk is mainly on dirt paths within the park. The paths can be muddy in places and very uneven so walking boots are recommended. There are quite a few up and down sets of steps in places.
There are public toilets at the visitors centre and a cafe and gift shop.
