Bird Rock (Craig yr Aderyn) derives its name from the number of birds which make it their home at different times of the year. It is designated as a site of special scientific importance. At its summit are the remains of an Iron Age hillfort and standing at only 233 metres (764 feet) it is a popular destination for locals and visitors to the Dysynni Valley area. However, fewer people traverse across to its slightly higher neighbour at 258 metres but this will be the high point for which we shall aim. In negotiating these 'twin peaks' and also another lower hill (231 metres) it means our combined ascent will be around 1,600 feet which, together with a little scrambling, makes this a slightly strenuous walk, but the commanding position of these hills within the valley provides (weather permitting) panoramic views making the effort involved worthwhile. In view of the terrain to be negotiated please check website for any changes to the planned walk.
