A mound on the hillside above Llyn trawsfynydd is the site of a Norman motte, built on the top of a Roman fort - surely one of the most desolate postings in the Roman empire!
This is a circular walk requiring little effort (ascent 240m), exploring the remains of the fort and the pre-existing Roman site. Our route takes us through woodland and on trails over hillsides and farmland, with beautiful views of the Rhinogydd to the west and the more distant mountains to the north. We return on the lakeside path along Llyn Trawsynydd.
