This, the third and longest section of the Mawddach Way, stretches from Penmaenpool to Barmouth. We take the bus from Barmouth to Taicynhaeaf and start our walk by crossing the toll bridge to Penmaenpool. From here, a path climbs quickly up through woodland to reach open meadows which we cross to join a quiet lane. We follow this for a short distance before heading past the shores of Llyn Gwernan and eventually reaching the banks of the Afon Gwynant. We then ascend through woodland to an old chapel, the graveyard of which remains in use. A well-defined track crosses into pasture leading us to the farm Ty’n Llidiart and onwards to the Cregennan Lakes. From there we descend by road for a short distance before taking a footpath through a series of small fields to a walled lane. Crossing a clapper bridge, we ascend to the crest of the hill from where we are afforded fine views over Fairbourne to the sea. Finally, we descend to Arthog Bog and Morfa Mawddach, crossing the railway bridge over the Mawddach Estuary to reach Barmouth.
