A lovely South Downs ramble starting from the pretty village of East Meon with, weather permitting, stunning views and scenery.
Our walk will take us along well-trodden countryside footpaths, quiet country lanes and though peaceful woodland to commence our ascent of Butser Hill. The wide open expanse of this grassy hill top offers views in all directions. Our climb will be rewarded by a picnic lunch stop. If open, Butser Roundhouse Kiosk provides hot and cold drinks and snacks and a WC.
After a lunch, we’ll enjoy more wonderful views on our return to East Meon via the South Downs Way.
We’re on good paths but there could be a bit of mud if it’s been raining. It’s a steady climb up the hill and can be a little slippy on one or two chalky sections. There is a steep, grassy descent toward the end of the walk, which will be slippery if wet. Please bring poles if you find them useful on such terrain. There is just one stile.
I’d love you to join my walk but please ensure you:-
- Choose the right walk; the walk should be within your abilities
- Wear appropriate clothing/footwear
- Look after yourselves and others, acting responsibly so that everyone has a great walk
