Overview

Our walk today visits the stones known as Cerrig y Cledd (Sword Stones), in the hills above the Barmouth Estaury. We start by heading uphill past Farchynys Cottage through woodland, with views taking in the Mawddach Estuary, Cadair Idris and Barmouth Bridge. Walking above Plas Caerdeon we turn towards Cerrig y Cledd, where leadere Derek will tell us about the history of the stones. We then follow the Afon Dwynant down past a disused gold mine of Cae Gwian, continuing to Bwlch yr Ysgol and following the path back to the start.
