Exploring part of the regional park from Drumfochar Station up to Overton to join the Greenock Cut. Then following the cut round to the old IBM site. There are great views of the Firth of Clyde across to Arrochar Alps and Ben Lomond, Cowal Peninsula and down to Arran.
Next the walk heads into the hills, up to a disused auxiliary reservoir around the slopes of Cauldron Hill, up to the trig point on Dunrod Hill then across to the cairn on Hillside Hill. Again there are excellent views across Thom and the Gryffe Reservoirs and across Daff Reservoir and the Kelly Cut towards Wemyss Bay and Arran.
From the hills the walk goes down to the Greenock Cut Visitor Centre and circumnavigates Loch Thom. Then rejoins the Waterman’s Road and heads back down to Overton and from there to Dumfochar Station.
The paths are a mix of short sharp uphill pavement up to the Cut; level gravel along the Cut; undulating and rutted grass and potentially boggy on the hills, steep in some places; minor roads around Loch Thom; then joining an uneven gravel and hardcore track with some added potholes to return to Overton. There are a few stiles and burns to cross.
