East of the A470 between Trawsfynydd and Bronaber lies an area of rough open access land crossed by a couple of faint footpaths and occasional, even fainter sheep-paths and quad-bike tracks. The rough grassland rises into low hills and ridges above an attractive lake, Llyn Gelli-gain, while somewhat further from the lake the highest point, Moel Oernant, reaches a height of 503 metres. Today’s walk explores this quiet and wild-feeling area, visiting the lake, Moel Oernant and the little ridge of Craiglaseithin. There will also be an opportunity to make a short detour to see a restored military observation shelter.
