A moorland walk for Marie Van de Sande. Piethorne Valley & Blackstone Edge.

In Aug23 we said goodbye to one of our regular members by going on a pub crawl in Leeds.  Marie will be back in the UK later this month and wants to go on a moorland walk on 25/11/23.

Piethorne Valley, Blackstone Edge & Hollingworth Lake

OS map OL21.

Previously led on 12.03.16 & 28.09.13 so some time spent navigating may be required.

We will walk alongside Ogden, Kitcliffe & Piethorne reservoirs before a gradual ascent of Windy Hill. After crossing the M62 by a bridge we will follow the Pennine Way to Blackstone Edge. We will then head downhill to Lydgate and follow quiet lanes to Hollingworth Lake (there are toilets at the visitor centre). Walking under the M62 we will return to Ogden Reservoir. Care will be required throughout the walk but especially on Blackstone Edge as there are rocks and uneven surfaces.

There is a small car park at the side of Ogden reservoir. There is also roadside parking up to Kitcliffe reservoir.

There is a pub a short walk from Ogden reservoir. It opens at 5pm on Saturdays and has a car park ....
