Explore some of the well- and less-well-known hinterland south of Rothbury.
From the River Coquet, we take St. Oswald's Way and climb up past the unusual Sharpe's Folly, the Iron Age settlement at Lordenshaws and the scout hut at Spylaw Cottage. Turning east from there, we head out towards Blagdonburn farm and The Lonning before entering the Forest Burn valley and the woods of Lee Plantation. We then head north to Butterknowes, passing the remains of its bastle and rejoining St. Oswald's Way as it makes its way above the Coquet back into Rothbury.
