We walk southwest from Rye along a path through fields and over streams (bridged) to Winchelsea. We'll climb to the Millenium Beacon before lunch at the New Inn in Winchelsea. The town is one of the best preserved medieval; towns in Britain, founded by Edward I in 1288 with an almost perfect grid plan. We descend via the Strand Gate and a section of road before cutting down towards the beach and picking up the track to Rye Harbour. Then back to Rye station along a minor road and footpath.
