This is an excellent, fairly flat, Autumnal walk suitable for beginners. It will probably be muddy but should be full of colour, pleasant views and involves cafes serving hot chocolate! Starting from the station we'll drop down and do a loop of beautiful Roberts Park and pick up the footpath next to the cricket changing rooms. We'll continue next to the river going past Hirst Weir and the Rowing Club through woodland, sometimes there's even a kingfisher. Eventually the path runs out and we join the canal towpath which we'll follow until we reach the famous 5 rise locks at Bingley. Which is where we'll cross the canal and probably stop for a drink or snack at the cafe. We'll briefly retrace our steps but head over a walkway over a busy road to Bingley centre where we'll spot a narrow entry to a path near The Brown Cow and walk next to the river until we enter Myrtle park. We'll leave the park on the far right crossing bridge walking past football pitches. We'll pass Bingley Congs cricket club and a minor road past Shipley Golf Club. We'll take care crossing a busy road then rejoin the path next to the river Eventually we'll take a left into Hirst Wood. We'll take 1 of the myriad of short paths through before leaving and heading left over the canal to pick up the towpath back to Saltaire.
At the end of the walk we can take refreshments at The Boathouse bar at or it's only a 3 minute walk back to the train station. Toilets should be open at Salts Mill near the start and the cafe which is at halfway. There is free parking near Titus Salt school but that is about a 7 minute walk from Saltaire station but there's other parking areas on Caroline Street
