A river and country path walk with a bit of history, taking in the green and lush countryside surrounding Stockport along the River Goyt.
The route is mainly flat with short ascents and descents.
Suitable footwear for walking, with a good sole, is required as some of the paths are uneven and may be muddy in parts. No sandals or Crocs please.
Train-based walk

Ascent: 200 metres
Transport to Walk Start: 10:51 train from Manchester Piccadilly station (final destination Buxton).
Meet Point: Near the ticket barriers at Piccadilly Station. Alternatively, meet the group on the train or at Stockport Station.
Suggested Ticket: Off Peak Day Return to Stockport £5.40. (At time of writing, a limited number of advance single tickets were available for £2 each way).
Walk Start: Stockport Train Station at 11:10. Meet in the main ticket office hall.
Waypoints: Stockport Town Hall, Strawberry Studios, Fred Perry Way, St Thomas Park/Recreation Ground, Woodbank Park (via the car park), Bredbury Hall/St Mark’s Cricket Club, Goyt Hall, Midshires Way, Poise Brook Valley, Woodbank Park, Vernon Park, Stockport Market.
Return Services: Every few minutes
Extra: Please use the toilets at Piccadilly Station and be ready to start the walk from the ticket office hall at Stockport at 11:10. Optional post-walk drinks in Stockport town centre.
