Overview

A walk along the mineral railway trail to Morwellham through woods and forest with splendid views across the Tamar Valley. As well as enjoying the sounds of the river and the views at Chimney Rock and Morwell Rock, we’ll pass remnants of the mineral railway which used to link Devon Great Consols Mine with the river port of Morwellham, including the site of the inclined plane railway which descended the steep gradient down to the port. We’ll also see the southern end of the Tavistock Canal Tunnel where the canal exits the tunnel near Morwellham.

Forestry tracks and paths and a small stream crossing. Some ups and downs. Short distance on the road down to Morwellham.
Park at Tamar Trails Visitor Centre - £2.40 all day. Pay with cash or PayByPhone app.

Bring a drink for our coffee stop and something to eat for our lunch stop. Opportunity to buy ice creams at Morwellham.
Option for coffee/cake at Tamar Trails Visitor Centre after the walk.
To join the walk please book by text to walk leader. No emails.
