Starting from the cattle grid on the Bolton Abbey to Embsay road at SE038556 the walk is 10 miles with 1000ft ascent
The beginning of this walk is uphill, then mostly level with two small streams to cross which involves a short down then up. Throughout the morning the paths are on open access land with lovely distant views over Airedale. Still on open access land we take a traditional well used soil path across moorland to join a stoney vehicle track where away to the left you can see both High and Low Barden Reservoirs. Then a grass path to exit the moor. Next downhill on a pleasant wooded path to Easby, we walk through the village to join Bark Lane, then through grass fields to Halton East and an uphill finish back to the cars.
Firm dry walking at the moment but if it rains heavily beforehand there will be boggy areas. Expect good views, varied terrain and very few people!
Embsay and Barden Moor have dangerous deep bogs and old mine workings so please keep to the path. The moor is exposed with no shade or shelter. There are stoney tracks, moorlands paths, grass fields, a few stiles in variety and possible cattle - none on recce but fields are near Billy Bob's dairy farm & ice cream parlour
