Leaders: Jane P. and Maggie S.
We begin by entering the Church to admire the magnificent monument to Sir Thomas Fulforde, his wife Ursula and their 7 children (1610).
We deviate from the Dunsford stepping stones, safely crossing the Teign at Steps Bridge, progress to Bridford Wood, Burnicombe, Plaistow Green, Bridford, Windhill Gate, Ashbury Hill Down, Lower Lowton Lane and return.
Bridford Church dating from the 14th and 15th centuries has a spectacular richly carved and painted Rood Screen dating from 1520-30. The figures are entertaining with a juggler and other capering figures! Step through the Rood to the Parclose of 11 large 16th century figures in costume of the period, one with a contemporary ring through his nose! It is astonishing that these artworks have survived the Reformation.
If you would like to join this walk, please notify the leaders, preferably by email, so that they can inform you of any late changes to arrangements.
