This walk was last done back in 2016. A bit further away but pretty different with some great views from the Ridges. Start at the car park at Horseshoe Lake, Yateley. It’s about 45 minutes from central Winchester. 4 miles in morning. Bluebell woods hopefully with sun on the flowers, and lovely woods on the Finchampstead Ridges. We cross the impressive Wellingtonia Avenue with a mile long double row of massive sequoias. Then through Simon’s Wood and via Heath Pool, circling back to The Queen’s Oak in Finchampstead for lunch at 12.45. Preorders by Tuesday 6pm please. The pub says they’re flexible about orders. For example their ciabattas are substantial enough that salad as a substitute for chips could be a wise move to avoid an overload for the afternoon. After lunch the walk takes us through St Mary’s Church down to the Blackwater River. We walk along the river bank back to the car park. 4 miles in the pm. No stiles. No mud on the recce. If it rains much before the walk there will be a detour which will shorten the afternoon by half a mile.
