We are the Calderdale Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
The walk begins above The White House public house and explores the open moors and bridleways around the many reservoirs and industrial revenants in this area, including significant sites from Roman, medieval and Victorian periods. Our well-informed guide will create a socio-historical picture for us as we wander these lanes.
Pennine weather in the winter can be challenging and this is in part an exposed route so walkers are advised to dress appropriately for the conditions, most particularly with footwear. Bring a packed lunch and warm drink, although refreshments will be a welcome reward at the pub itself after the walk. Parking can be in demand at the starting point, but more can be found just below the White House itself, although care must be exercised walking back up the road to the start.
Meet in the lay-by car parking area at the junction of the A58 Rochdale Road, and Turvin Road out of Cragg Vale, by Blackstone Edge reservoir and above The White House public house. Public transport in the form of buses runs to this point, and car share is recommended because of the popularity of this parking spot.
