Overview

While many people are familiar with Greenwich Park and Blackheath, fewer know the open spaces of Charlton.  This walk follows Section 5 of the Green Chain Walk, Thames Barrier to Oxleas Meadow, taking in seven different green spaces and exploring their history from prehistoric times and into the future.  There are some steep paths and steps.

From Charlton station, we walk along Anchor and Hope Lane, to follow the Thames Path to the Barrier.

There are toilets and cafés in Charlton Park (short break) and Oxleas Meadow (picnic/café stop).

Possible dropout points, on the 486 bus route to Charlton Station, at Greenwich Heights after 3.6 miles and Shooters Hill Road after 4.5 miles.
