A brisk walk through an area of lowland heath, a key habitat for rare heathland species, to Black Down (280 metres/919 feet), the highest point in both Sussex and the South Downs National Park, and to the Temple of the Winds, (no actual Temple, but a spectacular viewpoint). There are many undulations, some of which are quite steep. We then descend to Haslemere via Pen-y-bos, an ancient trail, and Tennyson's Lane.
