A fenland walk along picturesque dykes to Anglesey Abbey returning mainly on farm paths and some fen land. The terrain is flat, the path even, with a couple of stiles, the pace will be moderate. There are inevitably some long straight stretches, but it is always reasonably scenic.
Anglesey Abbey offers a garden for all seasons, in June we will enjoy in particular the rose garden and the herbaceous border. There are 114 acres of gardens. It is a National Trust property, entry £18.00, free to members and RHS, Gardner's World 241 also accepted. I hope to have up to 2 hours at the garden.
Train: 10.12 London Kings Cross, destination Ely, train is fast to Cambridge.
Lunch: a picnic at the Abbey, or at the cafe or restaurant. The Garden's cafe and toilets are accessible without entering the grounds. There is a waterfront pub 10 minutes from the station on our return journey.
Toilet: use toilets on the train or at lunchtime.
