A short, charming walk along the Thames and across the river to Taplow. At Taplow we will make a brief visit to an Anglo Saxon site associated with trade and travel along the 'silk roads'. Mostly flat, on easy terrain along the river, except for a steepish climb up to Taplow. River paths could be muddy. Pace will be moderate with occasional stops at points of interest.
Train: 9:32 Paddington (Elizabeth Line) arr. Maidenhead 10:12; change to GWR Marlow Line arr. Bourne End 10:45. Return from Taplow via Elizabeth Line. Passholders covered as far as Maidenhead will need a single GWR ticket Maidenhead to Bourne End. Others should check fare with TFL/GWR.
Lunch: Picnic on Ray Mill Island, a popular spot where there are public toilets, a pub and a food/drink kiosk. Likely to be very busy, so suggest that walkers bring food and use pub & kiosk for drinks only.
Toilet: at Cookham, about 1hour into walk, and at lunch.
