A hilly and varied circular walk starting from Shalford (Surrey). The walk follows woodland and heath sections of the North Downs Way and South Downs Way.
The walk has beautiful views on a fine day at St Martha's Hill, Blackheath and the Chantries evergreen woodland.
Although mostly dry, it can be very muddy in some parts. There are a few steep and sometimes slippery sections. Walking poles are recommended.
We will aim for a late lunch at the Monument in Blackheath. Please bring a pack lunch.
There are no toilets on this route.
Drop out points: Lockner Farm (bus) and Chilworth (rail replacement service).
Travel details: Take the 9.44 from London Waterloo to Guildford (Clapham Junction 09:53). Change for the rail replacement service to Shalford. Return from Shalford Station on the rail replacement service to Guildford (every hour) to catch train back to London Waterloo.
Buy a return ticket to Shalford. Oyster 60+ & Freedom Pass holders can buy a return ticket from the end of zone 6.
Please note that due to ash die back in one section, the walk will be cancelled if there are strong winds.
