Overview

This is an 11 mile circular walk around Shoreham in Kent, best known as the home of visionary 19th century artist Samuel Palmer who painted most of his best known works in the fields and countryside around the village. The pub is named for Palmer and you can see the house where he lived (though it is not open to the public). The walk itself takes us past Lullingstone Castle and makes good use of the Darent Valley path (see link to route on OS website below).  There are a few uphill stretches and some walking through long grass but in the main it is along well established paths.

Please bring a packed lunch. There is a nice pub in Shoreham for a drink after the walk but no opportunity to pick up refreshments en route. We will eat lunch either in woods half way round or find a quiet spot in a field if the weather is good.

The walk starts at 10.40am and should finish about 4pm.

No booking required.

The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors, such as weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.

There are no toilets at the station but there were on the train when I did the recce.
