A shorter walk for those who have maybe done a longer walk the day before, don't want to spend the whole day walking or who haven't walked in a while. Or perhaps you just want to do a short walk and enjoy all the fun of Theydon Bois' annual Donkey Derby!
We'll meet at 11.30am at Theydon Bois underground station on the Central Line to walk the 6.6 mile circular Oak Trail which - although a shorter walk for this group - passes through some varied scenery in Epping Forest - including woodland paths, open fields, an Iron Age camp and a deer sanctuary!
The Forest Gate Inn is at the half way point where if the group wants to we'll stop for a drink before having a picnic lunch in the forest. Please bring a packed lunch.
We'll aim to be back in Theydon Bois by 2.30pm and those who wish to can enjoy the Donkey Derby and fete (with tea tent!) on Theydon Bois Green. There is also the possibility of staying on for food at a village pub (I'll book a table at around 4.30pm so please let me know if you would like to stay on for food).
Note: this will be a joint walk with Social Walking, a Wanstead-based walking group that I organise (Wanstead walkers will be made aware of the Ramblers rules of three free walks before being asked to join The Ramblers).
No booking required.
The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors such as, weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
Travel:
Take the Central Line towards Epping.
There are loos available at Theydon Bois underground station at the start and end of the walk. Portable loos may also be available at the Donkey Derby.
