A walk through Upper Bilsdale valley bottom on a very quiet road then paths to the top of Clay Bank. We then head east on the Cleveland Way with expansive views, traversing the ridge and heather tops southwards before descending into Sieve Green and back to our start point, Chop Gate.
A reasonably demanding walk with one significant climb to the top of the Cleveland Way ridge. In places, the ground is lumpy so care will be needed but the views are uplifting.
There are a few stiles which are low level and in good repair. We start by walking for two miles on very quiet by-roads through a couple of Upper Bilsdale hamlets, before enjoying a section through fields and a small river valley and uphill to the top of Clay Bank.
If you have gaiters, it will be as well to bring them.
