Overview

Although it's the highest of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, Whernside is perhaps the easiest of them to climb. We start by walking north alongiside Ribblehead Viaduct followed by a direct but steep ascent to the summit ridge and then an easy stroll to the summit trig point with views towards Morecambe Bay. Continuing roughly south we descend to Bruntscar and then by easy footpaths to the tiny church at Chapel-le-Dale. After a short road section we fork left and follow footpaths to emerge underneath the viaduct.
