A walk that is inspired by King Harold’s march to the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Harold was crowned King of England on 6th January 1066. This set in motion a chain of events from the Battle of Stamford Bridge and ended in defeat at the Battle of Hastings.
We start at Maidstone and walk along the River Medway to leave Maidstone before entering the Loose Valley Conservation Area. There is a climb up the Quarry Hills and a walk along the ragstone ridge between the North Downs and the Weald, The descent into the Weald is along the route of the old Roman road into the mainly arable and grazing land.
Please bring a packed lunch as we will not be having a long lunch break.
No drop out points.
No booking required.
The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors, such as, weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
