This is a pretty walk which follows the Thames Path in the morning, visits historic Hambledon for lunch and returns via the hills above in the afternoon.
On leaving the station we follow the Thames Path to Remenham where we can take a short detour to visit St Nicholas Church. Returning back to the river we continue on to Hambleden Lock and over the impressive Hambleden Weir.
Our lunch stop is in the village of Hambledon - a beautiful well preserved village and church dating back to the 16th century. There is a cafe/village store and pub, but bring a packed lunch.
After lunch a few gentle climbs take us up to the hills above the village and on to the Great Wood. We follow this through to country lanes and tracks, with lovely views, which take us to the village of Fawley and then back to Henley.
There are public toilets just outside the station at Henley, but often with long queues so try and go on the train.
Trave: Take the 10.08 SWR train from Paddington to Twyford and change at Twyford to take the 10.45 to Henley-on-Thames. Buy a return to Henley-on-Thames.
Alternatively take the 9.48 Elizabeth line from Paddington arriving at Twyford at 10.33. This route is free for Freedom Pass holders. Then buy a return ticket from Twyford to Henley-on-Thames and take the 10.45 train suggested above.
There are trains back from Henley to Twyford every half hour. From there there is a regular SWR train service (roughly every 10mins) to Paddington, but Elizabeth line trains only run every half hour.
No booking required.
The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent on a number of factors such as, weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
